The head of the tape measure is loose to facilitate our measurement. When measuring with a tape measure, there are two methods of measurement. One is hanging on an object, and the other is pressing against it. The difference between the two methods of measurement is the thickness of the iron sheet at the head of the tape measure. The purpose of loosening the tape head is to compensate for the iron sheet on the tape head when it is pressed against an object.
