Sulphate Resistant Cement - SRC
Product description
SULPHATE RESISTANT CEMENT
Sulphate Resistant Cement is used in projects such as dams that are exposed to high amounts of sulfates. It is also used where there is a direct construction contact with clay soil, which contains a large amount of sulfate salt, such as foundations and pillars. This special cement is very resistant to attack from sodium and magnesium sulphates found in ground water.
LOW TRI-CALCIUM TRICLORATE CONTENT
Soil sulphate salts combine with moisture and tri-calcium alumnate (C3A), one of the constituents of cement to form a compound known as Sulpho Alumnate off Hydrated Calcium. This compound gradually results in the destruction of concrete. However, if C3A content is very low, it is rendered inert and there is thus no reaction at all. British standards specify that in SRC, C3A content must not exceed 3.5%, which AFRICEM ensures.
LOW HEAT OF HYDRATION
Heat generated on reaction of cement and water is called heat of hydration. This produces thermal expansion which deforms the concrete and is undesirable. Cooling down, there is a thermal contraction which causes the concrete to crack. AFRICEM Sulphate Resistant Cement has a low heat of hydration and isHIGHLY SUITABLE for
Dams.
Reliability
AFRICEM Sulphate Resistance Cement has always stood out of competition due to consistent quality. For projects like DAMS, high level of consistency is required to ensure full scale structural stability, AFRICEM Sulphate Resistant guarantees the same.
