What is Quercetin Dihydrate PE?

Quercetin is a type of flavonoid or plant pigment that acts as an antioxidant and serves as the foundation for many other members of the flavonoid family, including rutin, quercitrin and hesperidin.

Flavonoids (or "bioflavonoids") are plant pigments responsible for the color of fruits, flowers, and vegetables ( flavus means "yellow" in Latin). Flavonoids have demonstrated antioxidant properties. Quercetin also exerts potent antioxidant activity and vitamin C-sparing action. Antioxidants protect the body against free radical molecules that can damage cell membranes.

Quercetin also acts as an antihistamine by stopping the secretion of histamine, a chemical the body produces during an allergic reaction that causes sneezing and other symptoms.

The primary sources of quercetin are citrus fruits, apples, onions, parsley, tea and red wine. Olive oil, grapes, dark cherries and dark berries like blueberries, blackberries and bilberries are also high in flavonoids, including quercetin.
