Heavy duty is a remarkable feature of the development of the obstacle removal vehicle technology. With the adjustment of China's heavy truck tonnage, the construction of China's western development, South to North water and West to East gas transmission, the spread of the Olympic construction and the start of the construction of the Shanghai World Expo, the improvement of road conditions, the development of the transportation industry, and the development of highway transportation towards high-speed, intensive, specialized and containerized, will inevitably lead to the rise of the heavy truck industry (including dedicated heavy trucks). As an obstacle removal vehicle to ensure smooth roads, non condensing vehicles must also be heavy-duty to meet the needs of heavy vehicles for obstacle removal.

When removing the entrusted (towed) vehicle from the site, the obstacle removal vehicle generally adopts two methods: towing and supporting. Towing is to use the arm of the wrecker to lift the vehicle and drive it. Towing is often referred to as "hard towing", which is to use the obstacle removal vehicle to be towed by the trailer.

According to the structural type, the obstacle removal vehicles are generally divided into four series, namely, lifting separation type obstacle removal vehicles, lifting linkage type obstacle removal vehicles, flat type obstacle removal vehicles and ordinary type obstacle removal vehicles. Among them, there are two types of lifting separation type obstacle removal vehicles, namely, boom rotating obstacle removal vehicle and non rotating obstacle removal vehicle.

Obstacle removal vehicle refers to a special vehicle equipped with road rescue equipment. As the vehicle is running on the road, failures and accidents are inevitable, especially on high-grade highways, this phenomenon often occurs. The task of the obstacle removal vehicle is to timely pull the faulty vehicle or accident vehicle away from the site to ensure the smooth road. Therefore, road obstacle removal vehicle is also called road rescue vehicle. With the increase of high-grade road surface and vehicles in use, obstacle removal vehicles have also been developed.
