The Western American horseback was placed on the side of the saddle and was only widely used when it was introduced to China in the late Qing and Republic of China. Hurricane lights were a lighting tool developed in China in the last century. It uses kerosene as lamp oil, paired with a wick, and covered with a glass cover to prevent wind from blowing out the lamp. It can be hung on horses during nighttime travel and was most widely used in the 1970s.
